A Study on the Feather Mites(Analgesidae)in korea

Abstract
This study was presented on morphology and taxonomy of feather mites (Analgesidae) in dust on a market places. Dust was collected from the ground surface on a market place of main cities in Korea. Mites were isolated by Sasa¢¥s method and were mounted by Down¢¥s media. Mites were identified microscopically by tie key of Baker and Wharton(1964), Sasa (1956), and Furman and Catts(1982). Mites were classified into Megninia cubitalis, Analges passerinus, Chirodiscoides caviae, Pterophagus strictus, Trouessartia rosteri.
The morphological characteristics of each mites are summerized as follows
1 , Megninia cubitalis is characterized by 0.2mm in length. No stigmata or trachea are to be found. The skin is soft, thin, smooth and transparent. Body is undivided between propodosoma and hysterosoma. Anal suckers are often present in the male. Leg III is more developed than the others and often is highly developed.
2. Analges passerinus is characterized by 0.2mm in length. Body is undivided between propodosoma and hysterosoma. Leg I and II with sharp latero-ventral triangular, cuff-like projections on tarsus segments were observed.
3. Chirodiscoides caviae is characterized by 0.2mm in length. No stigmata or trachea are to be found. Body is divided into propodosoma and hysterosoma. The body is oblong and often strongly compressed laterally and as vertical setae. There are genital suckers and males have adanal copulatory suckers that may be very inconspicuous or even lacking. The tarsi usually have stalked or sessile empodial claw and caruncle and the caruncle is bell-like if the claws are abscent.
4. Pterophagus strictus is characterized by 0. 3mm in length. Both sexes have dorsal and dorsolateral propodosomal shields, a hysterosomal s.¢¥=:ield and several other small shields. Trachea is to be found. Body is divided into propodosomal and hysterosoma. Vertical setae appear on the propodosoma. All tarsi have caruncles.
F; . Trouessartia rosteri is characterized by 0. 3mm in length. Both sexes have dorsal plate, propodosomal plate and hysterosomal plate. Body is divided into propodosoma and hysterosoma. No stigmata or trachea are to be found. The rear of the female body is tapering, bilobate, and has sword shaped or bristle like appendages on each lobe. The posterior margin is often bilobate, too, and often has leaf-shaped appendages. All tarsi have caruncles.
